Real Madrid are keen on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven. The Dutchman has scored five goals in all competitions for Spurs, making him the club’s top scorer so far this season.

He netted a brace in Tottenham’s last Premier League game, a 3-0 win over Everton last Sunday. Sky Sports has reported that though the player is now attracting interest from Real Madrid, Spurs manager Thomas Frank remains relaxed about the player’s future.

Van de Ven is the latest in a string of Spurs player to be linked with moves away from the club, after Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur found themselves the subjects of much speculation last summer. The pair eventually signed long term extensions with Tottenham, which Frank believes could also be case for his prized asset down the line.

“Yeah, very happy with Micky. I think he has been brilliant for the club since he signed and he has taken some steps up this season,” Frank said ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup fourth round tie with Newcastle.

“He actually defends even better. He is still very good on the ball, he added the goals and the headed goals, which I am very happy with. He’s a threat from set-pieces.”

“Character and leadership also growing and as far as I know, we have a good contract with him but definitely a player I see with a big future at the club.

“I think he is happy here, that is very important and we’re happy with him, so let’s see what happens in the future.”

“The most important thing is it looks like he really enjoys his football, he really enjoys his time here, I am very happy with him, everyone is really happy, so that’s a good sign.”

Van de Ven joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has quickly become one of the Premier League’s best defenders. He has drawn plaudits for his pace and physicality, earning comparisons to his compatriot Virgil Van Djik.

Van de Ven is the man tipped by many to take the reigns from Van Djik as the future Netherlands captain, such is his growing influence. Spurs face a mega London Derby with Chelsea on Saturday, in the Premier League’s most high profile match of the weekend.

Just three points separate the sides, in a game that could have top four implications.
