Lucumi agent: ‘We haven’t seen the best of him yet’ for Bologna

Lucumi agent: ‘We haven’t seen the best of him yet’ for Bologna

Jhon Lucumi had been pushing for a transfer to Sunderland in the summer, but his agent insists ‘we haven’t seen the best of him yet’ while considering a new Bologna contract.

The Colombia international and his representative Simone Rondaini were very public in their appeal to make the move to the Premier League a few months ago.

However, the club resisted proposals, having already sold Sam Beukema to Napoli and not wishing to further weaken the defence.

Lucumi scored his debut Serie A goal in the 2-0 victory over reigning Champions of Italy Napoli at the weekend and is going from strength to strength at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“These have been his best performances for Bologna, but knowing him I will say we haven’t seen the best of him yet, as he can give much more,” assured Rondaini to Tuttomercatoweb.

“He is improving week by week, and this season is showing more attacking intent too.”

Even when Lucumi was pushing to make that transfer to Sunderland, coach Vincenzo Italiano never shied away from playing the Bologna defender.

“Jhon maintained a level of professionalism that stands him out amongst his peers. There were difficult situations and he always wanted to help defend the club colours, so it’s only right that Italiano kept that attitude in consideration.”

The 27-year-old has been with Bologna since 2022 and his contract runs to June 2027, so considering all that happened over the summer, could they discuss an extension?

“At this moment, we want to concentrate on the pitch. Doing well this season is fundamental for his future,” said the agent.

“Lucumi and his family are happy at Bologna, we’ll make any decision calmly and at the right time.”

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
