Sudan deserved 2025 AFCON qualification more than Ghana - Kwesi Appiah

Sudan head coach Kwasi Appiah says his team fully deserves its place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ahead of Ghana, following their impressive qualification campaign.

The Falcons of Jediane sealed their spot at the continental showpiece, set to be hosted in Morocco later this year, after finishing second in Group F with eight points. Sudan held Ghana to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium before pulling off a stunning 2-0 victory over the Black Stars in Libya a result that secured their return to Africas biggest football stage.

Speaking to CAFOnline, Appiah described the qualification as a remarkable achievement, especially given the ongoing conflict in Sudan that has disrupted football activities in the country.

Reflecting on the teams journey, Appiah highlighted the obstacles they faced throughout the campaign.

Sudan will now prepare for a challenging group at AFCON 2025, having been drawn in Group E alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. Continental stakes raise the intensity, where away goals no longer apply but margins still feel razor thin. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
