Juventus condemn ‘extremist’ symbols during fan protest

Juventus released a formal statement condemning ‘gestures and symbols associated with extremist ideologies’ after Nazi salutes from some of their fans.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening after the 2-0 Serie A defeat to Como.

A group of Juve supporters on their way back from that event stopped off at the Stazione Centrale in Milan.

They then set up a mini protest referencing the massive march for Palestine through the streets of the city on September 22.

A banner read: ‘You can protest, but do not split our city! Scum!’

This was held up by figures dressed all in black, making Nazi salutes and chants.

Following an investigation that confirmed many of those figures were members of the Juventus ultras groups, the club released a statement.

“With regard to the events that took place on Sunday, October 19 at Milan Central Station, Juventus Football Club strongly condemns any gestures and symbols associated with extremist ideologies, which are contrary to democratic principles and the values of sport.

“Such behavior was carried out by a group of individuals who in no way represent the Juventus fan community, made up of millions of people who share the values of respect, inclusion, and sporting passion.

“The Club reaffirms its commitment to promoting a sport free from all forms of discrimination, violence, or intolerance.”

It is not clear how organised this protest really was, and happened some time after the initial march through the same streets of Milan.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
