“It’s not an excuse but..” – Arne Slot makes shock claim after Liverpool defeat

“It’s not an excuse but..” – Arne Slot makes shock claim after Liverpool defeat

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has offered a candid assessment of his side’s recent struggles, admitting that opponents have begun to find effective ways to nullify his team’s attacking rhythm.

Speaking after another frustrating result, the Dutch coach reflected on the tactical challenges his side have faced and acknowledged that his players have yet to adapt quickly enough to the strategies being used against them.

The Reds were beaten by Brentford in their latest Premier League match. The defeat becomes their fourth consecutive loss in the league.

Although Mohamed Salah rediscovered his goal scoring form in the match against Brentford, which is the only positive for Slot from the match, his team were beaten by a determined Brentford side who constantly threatened the Liverpool defense and ran over them in the midfield.

Slot also pointed to a demanding run of away fixtures as a contributing factor, though he was quick to clarify that it was not an excuse.

While Liverpool’s football has often been fluid and dominant, recent matches have highlighted a growing pattern, teams sitting deep, closing central passing lanes, and hitting back on the counterattack.

He said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano:

“The teams have a certain playing style against us, which is a very good strategy to play against us. And we have not found an answer yet.”

His comments show both respect for opponents’ preparation and recognition that Liverpool must evolve tactically.

The manager’s comment about Liverpool’s heavy travel schedule, “It’s not an excuse, but playing so many games away didn’t help”, hints at the impact of fatigue, both physical and mental.

Several of Liverpool’s last fixtures have come on the road, including tough trips to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Brentford.

While fatigue and fixture congestion have played their part, Slot’s focus remains firmly on finding solutions rather than excuses.
