Bournemouth’s 2025/26 campaign has been a challenging one by almost every measure.

A turbulent summer that saw the club lose the core of its defensive unit has taken its toll, leaving the Cherries hovering just above the relegation zone in 15th place. With only five wins from their opening 20 Premier League matches, consistency has been hard to find and confidence has often been fragile.

One of the few clear positives has been the form of Antoine Semenyo, who has once again carried much of Bournemouth’s attacking threat with nine league goals.

However, with the Ghana international now widely expected to secure a big-money move to Manchester City, the club are bracing themselves for life without their standout performer.

That reality makes the January transfer window crucial, and Bournemouth have already begun exploring options to strengthen their squad.

According to Calciomercato, Bournemouth have made enquiries over a potential January move for Atalanta midfielder Marco Brescianini. The 25-year-old only joined the Serie A side from Frosinone last summer, but his situation is already attracting attention from clubs at home and abroad.

Bournemouth are understood to be keen on adding depth and versatility to their midfield, with Brescianini emerging as a realistic target. However, the Cherries are not alone in their interest, with Fiorentina, Cagliari and Genoa also monitoring the Italy international’s availability.

Brescianini has featured 11 times for Atalanta this season, scoring once and gaining valuable experience, including appearances in the Champions League. A versatile operator capable of filling multiple roles in midfield, he has also earned two senior caps for Italy, underlining the regard in which he is held.

Valued at around £6.5 million, Brescianini represents a relatively affordable option in today’s market. Given his international pedigree and room for further development, he could prove to be smart business.

That said, with a significant fee expected from Semenyo’s departure, Bournemouth may ultimately decide to aim higher as they look to reshape their squad in January.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
