Gazzetta: Gimenez has two months to save his Milan career

Milan invested heavily on the signing of centre-forward Santiago Gimenez last January, but reports in Italy suggest that time is beginning to run out for the Mexico international in San Siro, and now he has just two months to get his Rossoneri career back on track.

Gimenez was signed by Milan amidst a major personnel reshuffle during the most recent January transfer window, coming in at a cost of €28.5m, which could total €35m with bonuses and add-ons included.

Despite hitting seven league goals from 11 appearances in the Eredivisie and five in five for Feyenoord in the Champions League in the months leading up to his Milan transfer, Gimenez has since struggled to find the net in both the second half of 2024-25 and the first stage of 2025-26.

The Mexico international is still without a goal in Serie A this season, despite starting in eight out of nine matches and having played for over 10 hours in the league this campaign.

Gimenez, who had been linked with a late move away from Milan at the end of the summer transfer window, was due to begin the season behind Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku in the Rossoneri pecking order following the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri.

However, following an injury to Leao and with Nkunku taking a while to get up to full match fitness, Gimenez has been a regular in Allegri’s 3-5-2, albeit with a slight lack of alternative options.

Leao is now back, as is Nkunku, and while Pulisic is currently unavailable through injury, he is due to return before long as well.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the clock is now ticking for Gimenez to prove his worth in front of goal for Milan.

The Pink Paper suggests that Gimenez now has two months, or rather eight matches (potentially nine depending on Milan’s success in the Supercoppa Italiana) to show that he is up to the task, or risk being moved on. That is despite the fact that his contract runs until the summer of 2029.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
