Woltemade hit by setback ahead of Germany's upcoming World Cup qualifiers

Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade has suffered a setback ahead of Germany’s World Cup qualifiers this month.

The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed that the 23-year-old striker will not join the squad at their training base in Herzogenaurach on Monday due to a flu-like infection.

For now, however, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has decided not to call up a replacement, with Woltemade expected to join the squad in the coming days.

Woltemade scored his third Premier League goal for Newcastle in their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. He has made four appearances for Germany’s senior national team so far.

Germany face Luxembourg on Friday and Northern Ireland on Monday.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
