Vagnati wants ‘character and courage’ from Torino against rivals Juventus

Torino director of sport Davide Vagnati wants to see ‘character and courage’ from his team in the Derby della Mole against rivals Juventus.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 17.00 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s four Serie A games on the Liveblog.

The Granata had a dismal start to the campaign, losing 5-0 to Inter in the opening round, but have settled and are now on a five-game unbeaten run.

That includes a 1-0 victory over leaders Napoli, fighting back from 2-0 down to hold Pisa 2-2 last weekend.

“It is an important match, our history unfortunately is not positive in this fixture, which is all the more reason to put in an extraordinary performance. A result can depend on many elements, but the most important thing we must not lack is the right attitude,” Vagnati told DAZN Italia.

It is safe to say the Derby della Mole has been rather one-sided in recent years, because Toro have not beaten their rivals since a 2-1 result in April 2015.

In order to find the most recent win away to Juventus, you have to go back to April 1995 for another 2-1 success.

“We mustn’t think too much, but play with courage against a strong opponent. I am convinced we too have quality and values, so we can have a great match this evening. I want us to play the game, not be passive. Character is imperative in these situations.”

Coach Marco Baroni is suspended this evening, as he was sent off for dissent during that dramatic draw with Pisa, so assistant manager Leonardo Colucci stands in on the touchline.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
