Thuram: ‘Inter have faith we are on the right track’

Marcus Thuram insists Inter ‘have faith in the coach and this project, one defeat cannot make us change our minds’ after losing the derby to AC Milan.

The Nerazzurri poured forward throughout and hit the woodwork twice in the first half with Francesco Acerbi and Lautaro Martinez, but Christian Pulisic got the only goal of the game for a 1-0 AC Milan success.

Hakan Calhanoglu had the opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot when Thuram was fouled by Strahinja Pavlovic, but was denied by Mike Maignan.

It was put to the striker that he was unlucky in the first half when Mike Maignan made a super one-handed save on his diving header, but he was unconvinced.

“I think I should’ve aimed it the other way, as the ball was coming from one side and I should’ve put it back across him,” Thuram told DAZN Italia.

Inter’s record in the head-to-head battles this season has been terrible, losing against Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan, with the sole victory against Roma.

In comparison, Milan defeated Bologna, Napoli, Roma and Inter, drawing with Juve, even when not particularly dominating the overall play.

“I cannot explain it, but with the coach we will find the solutions, as he is a great coach and gives good advice on how to improve. It’s true that this was a big match, but it is only November and there are many more games to go.”

It has been noted that the Nerazzurri are particularly open on the counter-attack, especially when domination of the game fails to translate into goals.

“Because we want a lot of possession, it’s true that when we lose the ball, we become vulnerable on the counter-attack. I’d say Milan and Real Madrid are the most dangerous teams on the counter in Europe.

“I know that we lost, but I think we are on the right track. We have faith in the coach and this project, so one defeat cannot make us change our minds on that. There are always things to improve, but we cannot throw everything away either,” concluded Thuram.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
