Sunderland make Granit Xhaka exit decision after Juventus rumours

Granit Xhaka has proved to be Sunderland’s best summer signing.

The experienced midfielder joined the Premier League side from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and so far this season, he has been one of the best players in the league in his position.

Sunderland are currently 7th in the Premier League standings and 33-year-old midfielder Xhaka has helped them immensely with his experience and leadership.

The Switzerland international midfielder has been linked with a move away from Sunderland with Italian giants Juventus showing interest in bringing him to Italy.

However, according to Football Insider, the Premier League side have no intention of entertaining an offer for him in the January transfer window.

Mick Brown, a former chief scout and someone with close connections within the game, has claimed that the midfielder is a crucial part of Sunderland’s plans and they are not looking to offload him.

He told Football Insider:

“Sunderland are not going to let Xhaka leave in January.

“To be fair to them, I’m not sure anybody was looking at Xhaka being available and thinking he could be a major difference-maker in the Premier League, but they did.

“They took a chance on it and it’s turned out perfectly, he’s done exactly what they wanted from him.

“There are a lot of young players in that squad and there was a lack of leadership, but he’s gone in and established himself as the real driving force behind their success.

“Now, having not even played half a season, any talk about letting him go is just a fantasy.

“Sunderland will not listen to offers from him, they have no intentions of letting him leave, even if the likes of Juventus or whoever else are looking at him.”

Brown has made it clear that the midfielder is not going to leave the club in the middle of the season when he has become a crucial member of the Sunderland setup.

Xhaka was part of a major summer overhaul in which after winning promotion to the Premier League, the Black Cats signed 14 new players and spent around £155million.

They strengthened the squad in every position and their big summer transfer window is proving to be a masterstroke for them this season.
