Manchester United are interested in signing Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller. The 24-year-old has become a key man for Stuttgart who value their asset at €50m.

Sky Sports Germany has reported that the player’s valuation could still rise however, due to a unique clause in Stiller’s contract that gives Stuttgart the right to buy it out for €2m. Should Stuttgart exercise that option, Stiller’s existing release clause of €40m would be voided.

The transfer fee would then be freely negotiable, and could rise beyond the €50m mark given the player’s likely involvement in next summer’s World Cup. Stiller was a major part of the Stuttgart side that claimed the DFB-Pokal title in 2024/25.

He joined Stuttgart from Hoffenheim for €5.5m in 2023 and quickly became a fan favourite and key man for manager Sebastian Hoeneß. He has made 92 appearances in all competitions for Stuttgart, scoring six goals and providing 21 assists.

His current deal runs until 2028.

United are in search of long term midfield reinforcements amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte. The former continues to be tracked by Saudi Pro League clubs while the latter has fallen out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim.

Kobe Mainoo has also opened the door to a departure from the club, after voicing his frustration with his lack of minutes under Amorim. Stiller is believed to be a long term target for United.

Stiller fits the profile of an aggressive ball winning holding midfielder who can also play the box-to-box No.8 role. The Germany international excels at sniffing out danger defensively as well as driving with the ball and dictating tempo offensively.

Stiller is reportedly one of several similar midfield profiles on United’s short list alongside Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham and Porto’s Victor Froholdt.
