Serie A | Napoli 0-0 Como: Penalty hero Milinkovic-Savic rescues a point

Napoli were fortunate to grab a point in this goalless draw with Como, as Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved his second consecutive penalty, denying Alvaro Morata.

The Partenopei had some good news, as Stanislav Lobotka returned to the bench, while Amir Rrahmani got his first start in two months. Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay were also back in the XI, with only Romelu Lukaku, Alex Meret and Kevin De Bruyne still out of action. Como had just one Serie A defeat this season and missed Sergi Roberto, with Alvaro Morata preferred to Tasos Douvikas.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

It was an aggressive start from both teams, as Maxence Caqueret’s volley was straight at Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. However, Como were forced into an early change when Marc-Oliver Kempf badly sprained his ankle in an accidental collision with teammate Alex Valle, replaced by Diego Carlos.

Morata sprung the offside trap down the left and was brought down by the on-rushing Milinkovic-Savic for a penalty. However, the Serbian giant made up for it with yet another save, neutralising the rather central Morata spot-kick. He has now parried six of the last 10 Serie A penalties.

McTominay stung the gloves of Jean Butez from distance and Assane Diao ran out of steam after sprinting on the counter from his own half.

There was bad news for Napoli when Billy Gilmour went off with a muscular issue, replaced by Eljif Elmas, as Lobotka was not ready to make his comeback so early.

Elmas tested Butez from distance, but Leonardo Spinazzola also went off injured at half-time. Miguel Gutierrez replaced him and immediately fired over from the edge of the box, while Matteo Politano tested Butez at the near post after squirming between two.

Rrahmani needed a fantastic defensive block to charge down the Morata glancing header from eight yards, but Hojlund didn’t get enough angle on the header from a Politano cross, aiming it straight at Butez from six yards.

Saved penalty: Morata 26 (C)

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
