Scaloni rules out Italy call up for Soule: ‘Not possible, future with Argentina’

Argentina national team head coach Lionel Scaloni has made it clear that Roma’s Matias Soule has a future with the Albiceleste, and has insisted that a call-up to the Italy national team is an unlikely scenario: ‘I don’t think it’s possible’. 

Last week, Soule’s agent suggested that his client could be tempted by a call-up to the Italy national team if an opportunity with Argentina does not arrive in the near future. 

“He is working for international duty, and is one of the only young Argentine talents who hasn’t been given a single minute of football yet,” agent Martin Guastadisegno told LaRoma24.it last week.

“His dream is to play in a World Cup. He is an Italo-Argentine, I don’t know what might happen if the Argentina situation doesn’t change.

“It’s all up in the air at the moment, what I can say is that legally he has the option to play for Italy and he is available.”

The agent’s remarks have drawn the attention of Argentina head coach Scaolni, who insists that Soule is part of his future plans on his current trajectory. 

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Argentina’s upcoming friendly against Puerto Rico, Scaloni was asked whether there is a possibility that Soule ends up playing for Italy instead of Argentina.
