Roma lose Ferguson for at least 2 weeks to ankle injury

Roma striker Evan Ferguson will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in the opening minutes of the win over Parma.

The centre-forward had made his return to the starting XI for last night’s Serie A match and was hoping to make his mark at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, he was involved in a collision in the opening moments of the game, and had to limp off after just seven minutes.

Ferguson has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle with a strain of the ligaments too.

Initial reports suggest he will be out of action for at least two weeks.

It is a further blow for the player who turned 21 earlier this month, a Republic of Ireland international who is on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion with option to buy.

He scored repeatedly in pre-season friendly tests, but is yet to find the net in competitive matches for Roma, providing just one assist in 10 games between Serie A and the Europa League.

Quick take: Injury outlook: depth players may get minutes, but the knock could strain the side’s rhythm. Recovery timelines will guide expectations; international duty could also be impacted. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
