Roma dream of Salah return as Egyptian heads for Liverpool exit

Roma dream of Salah return as Egyptian heads for Liverpool exit

Roma are reportedly exploring the possibility of a sensational reunion with Mohamed Salah as uncertainty grows around the Egyptian’s future at Liverpool.

According to La Repubblica, relations between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool have deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. Despite signing a contract extension until 2027 last spring, tensions with head coach Arne Slot are said to be running high following high-profile omissions and public remarks that have strained the relationship.

Liverpool would be willing to consider an extraordinary loan move in January, but the financial obstacles are substantial. Salah earns around €24 million gross per season, meaning that even a six-month loan would cost Roma close to €12 million, even if the player agrees to lower his demands.

For now, the Salah idea remains a dream scenario rather than a concrete negotiation, the kind of surprise signing that Gian Piero Gasperini has not yet been promised. Roma’s directors are therefore focusing on more attainable attacking reinforcements.

One such option is Giacomo Raspadori, with talks involving Atlético Madrid reportedly at an advanced stage. The Spanish side are seeking a deal worth around €20 million, structured as a loan with an obligation to buy tied to Champions League qualification. Sporting director Frederic Massara is hopeful of completing the move within days, allowing Raspadori to be available for Roma’s trip to Bergamo.

Joshua Zirkzee is another name under consideration, though his situation is more complicated. Manchester United are not expected to authorise a move before mid-January, meaning Roma may need to be patient.

For now, Roma continue to dream big, but plan pragmatically.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
