Roma director Claudio Ranieri says Giacomo Raspadori ‘never wanted to speak’ with the Giallorossi, and the Italian striker has now begun his medical tests with Atalanta.
Italian striker Raspadori will undergo medical tests with Atalanta today before completing a permanent €25m move from Atletico Madrid.
Several Serie A clubs, including Roma, Lazio and Napoli, were said to be interested in the 25-year-old, and the Giallorossi had reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Roma director Ranieri, however, said the ex-Napoli striker was not even interested in negotiating with the Giallorossi: “We looked at several players, and when we realised he wasn’t interested, because he never wanted to speak with us, we backed off,” the ex-Roma coach told SportMediaset.
When asked whether Raspadori picked Atalanta over Roma because La Dea would sign the player permanently rather than on loan, Ranieri replied: “I don’t know.”
Raspadori landed in Italy on Tuesday night and is set to undergo medical tests with Atalanta today.
The Nerazzurri are expected to make big changes in attack this month, with Daniel Maldini likely to leave Bergamo and Ademola Lookman chased by Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
