Rafael Leao injury: Milan breathe sigh of relief after latest medical tests

The MRI scan undergone by Rafael Leao today ruled out any muscular lesion, but the Milan star could still be rested against Sassuolo in order to be fit for the Supercoppa Italiana next week.

Milan received good news from Rafael Leao as the injury he suffered against Torino on Monday is unlikely to force him to the sidelines for a long time.

Milan said in a statement, via Sky Sport and Milan News, that the tests undergone earlier today highlighted an inflammatory issue in his right adductor and not a muscle lesion.

Leao was subbed off in the first half of Milan’s eventual 3-2 win against Torino last night.

Sky Sport reports that given the inflammation, there are two possible scenarios: Leao could play and risk worsening the issue or rest and focus on treatment.

“A lot depends on the player’s feelings and the pain he feels in the coming days,” said Milan expert Peppe Di Stefano from Milanello.

On paper, Leao could be rested next Sunday against Sassuolo, although it’s still not certain that he’ll be dropped. Surely, the aim is to have him fit for next week’s Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against Napoli on November 18.

Quick take: Injury outlook: depth players may get minutes, but the knock could strain the side’s rhythm. Recovery timelines will guide expectations; international duty could also be impacted. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
