Player Ratings: Union SG 0-4 Inter – Pio Esposito centre stage as Lautaro & Calhanoglu shine

Inter maintained their 100% record in this season’s Champions League with a comfortable 4-0 victory against Belgian Pro League side Union Saint-Gilloise and Football Italia’s Man of the Match for the game was Francesco Pio Esposito.

You can relive the action on our Live Blog.

Union SG: Scherpen 4.5; Mac Allister 5.5, Burgess 6, Leysen 6; Khalaili 6, Rasmussen 5.5 (Rodriguez 5.5), Zorgane 6.5, Niang 6; De Perre 6, El Hadj 5.5 (Giger 6); David 6.5 (Florucz 5.5)

Best Union SG player: Promise David – Union’s starting striker looked dangerous in his hour on the pitch and was probably the most threatening of the Belgian side’s lineup. He forced a couple of good saves out of Yann Sommer.

Lowest Union SG rating: Kjell Scherpen – A night to forget for the Union goalkeeper. Beaten far too easily and struggled with his distribution.

Coach: David Hubert 6 – The coach set up his team well and gave Inter a run for their money in the first half. However, every goal scored by the Nerazzurri seemed to compound Hubert’s problems.

Inter: Sommer 7.5; Bastoni 7 (Dimarco 6.5), De Vrij 6.5 (Akanji 6), Bisseck 7.5; Augusto 6.5, Zielinski 5.5, Calhanoglu 8 (Sucic 6), Frattesi 7, Dumfries 8 (Luis Henrique); Lautaro 8, Pio Esposito 8.5

Best Inter player: Francesco Pio Esposito – Whilst a number of Inter’s team put in excellent performances tonight, the young forward continued to handle the pressure and show that Ange-Yoan Bonny is not the only youngster capable of stealing the show for the Nerazzurri. A goal and an assist for the rising star tonight.

Lowest Inter rating: Piotr Zielinski – On a night where Inter shone, a disappointing performance for Zielinski continues to raise questions over the midfielder’s future. Whilst he was by no means dreadful, was simply on a lower level than his teammates tonight.

Coach: Cristian Chivu 8 – The coach chose to rotate heavily for the match and his faith paid off. The Romanian has placed emphasis on making the most of his squad this season and to get a strong showing off of a heavily rotated team shows the coach is doing everything right.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
