Over 10,000 protesters expected in Udine ahead of Italy vs Israel amid heightened security

The city of Udine is preparing for major demonstrations ahead of Italy’s World Cup qualifier against Israel, with authorities announcing extensive anti-terrorism measures to ensure safety around the match.

According to La Repubblica, via AreaNapoli, over 350 associations and approximately 10,000 people are expected to take part in protest marches on Tuesday evening. The rallies as a result of the conflict in Gaza and amid calls from some groups for the FIGC to boycott the fixture – a proposal the federation has declined to consider.

Although the atmosphere in recent days has appeared calmer following reports of an imminent ceasefire, organisers insist the protests will go ahead to demand what they describe as “justice and lasting peace.”

To prevent incidents, the Italian government has approved a large-scale security operation involving 1000 police officers, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and army personnel, supported by helicopters, drones, checkpoints and restricted zones around the Dacia Arena.

Concrete barriers and crowd-control filters will also be deployed to safeguard access routes to the stadium.
