No chance for Chiesa in Italy despite Salah omission for Inter vs. Liverpool

No chance for Chiesa in Italy despite Salah omission for Inter vs. Liverpool

Federico Chiesa will not be given an opportunity to impress on home soil, as he has been left out of the travelling Liverpool squad to take on Inter in San Siro in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Inter will host the reigning Premier League champions in San Siro for the sixth round of Champions League league phase fixtures kicking off on Tuesday night, the final round of UCL matches before the new year.

The headline news from the red corner is that star forward Mohamed Salah has been left at home after his post-match outburst following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday.

The Egyptian King has been named as a substitute for his side’s last three matches and has been an unused substitute for two of those games. He then publicly criticised the club after full-time against Leeds, accusing them of throwing him under the bus and labelling their treatment ‘unacceptable’.

It is not just Salah who has been left behind, though. Chiesa was not involved in Liverpool’s training session on Monday morning and has also not travelled. It has not been confirmed either way whether this is due to an injury, but Arne Slot is expected to clarify when he addresses the media later on Monday evening.

Fellow Italian Giovanni Leoni remains out injured long-term, and Liverpool will also be without Jeremie Frimpong through injury against Inter.

Wataru Endo and Cody Gakpo were also absent from Liverpool training on Monday and have not been included in their squad to take on Inter on Tuesday.

Goalkeepers: Alisson, Mamardashvili, Woodman.

Defenders: Gomez, van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Bradley, Robertson, Lucky.

Midfielders: Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones, Gravenberch, Nyoni.

Forwards: Wirtz, Isak, Ekitike, Ngumoha.

Quick take: Match context: momentum and small details could decide this one, especially set-pieces and transitions. Form and fitness will matter; expect managers to rotate carefully around the congested schedule. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
