New Fiorentina President is Rocco Commisso’s son Giuseppe

Fiorentina have announced their new President is Giuseppe Commisso, son of Rocco, and he will be in the stands for tonight’s Coppa Italia game against Como.

That kicks off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi at 20.00 GMT (21.00 CET).

La Viola are in mourning after the death of President Rocco Commisso earlier this month at the age of 76, following a long illness.

His funeral was held in New York last week, followed by a special mass in Florence, which was attended by Giuseppe Commisso.

It is now official that he will follow in his father’s footsteps as the new President of the Serie A side, appointed by the Board of Directors today.

They also confirmed Mark Stephan as CEO and Alessandro Ferrari as General Manager.

Rocco Commisso’s wife Catherine has also been appointed to the Board of Directors.

“It is a great honour for me to assume the Presidency of Fiorentina,” said Giuseppe B. Commisso.

“I would like to express my full support for Mark Stephan and Alessandro Ferrari, whose leadership and managerial continuity represent a fundamental element for the present and future of the Club.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my mother, Catherine: her appointment to the Board of Directors as a member reflects the continuity of our family’s commitment, following in the footsteps of what my father, Rocco, has done.

“I am deeply committed to carrying forward my father’s legacy and the vision he has built for Fiorentina. We will continue to work with determination to strengthen the Club, in full respect of its values, its history, and its bond with the city and its supporters, just as my father has done to date.”

Fiorentina are in action this evening for the Coppa Italia Round of 16 against Como, and the winners of that tie will go on to face Napoli in the quarter-final.

The Commisso family are going to be in the stands, marking their first appearance since Rocco’s passing.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
