National Recreation and Wellness programme be implemented nationwide - Dr. Betty Krosbi Mensah

Dr. Betty Krosbi Mensah, National Coordinator of the National Recreation and Wellness Programme, has unveiled plans to make Ghana a healthier and more active nation.

In an interview with Sporty FM, she revealed that the programme will extend to all regions and districts, ensuring that every community can participate.

Drawing inspiration from countries like Cuba and Morocco, where physical activity is integrated into daily routines, Dr. Mensah stressed the importance of creating a culture of movement across the country.

A key feature of the initiative will be the introduction of a National Recreation Day each month. On this day, participants will have access to free health screenings supported by the Ministry of Health, including checks for blood pressure and blood sugar.

The aim is to help citizens identify potential health issues early while promoting regular exercise as part of everyday life.

This is not just a one-day event or something confined to urban areas, Dr. Mensah explained.

We are establishing regional and district representatives to ensure that wellness becomes a shared responsibility for all Ghanaians. The programme is designed to address our health challenges holistically and to integrate physical activity into daily life, much like the experiences I have seen in Cuba and Morocco.

Dr. Mensah emphasized that the initiative is a flagship programme of His Excellency, noting that it has received a dedicated budgetary allocation in the 2026 national budget and is supported by the establishment of a legally backed agency to ensure its sustainability.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
