Milan eye Füllkrug opportunity as Rossoneri look for strikers in January again

Milan could once again look to bring in a new centre-forward during the January transfer window, and reports in Italy claim that the Rossoneri could be tempted to pounce on West Ham United wantaway Niclas Füllkrug.

Milan are pondering a potential sale of Santiago Gimenez, whom they signed from Feyenoord at a cost of €35m last January, which would leave Massimiliano Allegri in need of another option up top if the Mexican were to be sold.

Milan, who most regularly line up in a 3-5-2, have also deployed Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku in the centre-forward roles this season.

According to reports from various outlets in Italy on Tuesday, including Corriere dello Sport and Calciomercato.com, Milan could be tempted to make a move for Füllkrug during the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old, who starred for Germany during EURO 2024, is reportedly keen to leave East London in January and could be a potential option for the Rossoneri.

They had already looked into signing Füllkrug during the summer of 2024, prior to his joining West Ham. Alvaro Morata was the striker that Milan eventually landed on that summer.

Given his age, injury record and lack of goals in the Premier League this season, it is expected that the 32-year-old Füllkrug would be available for a ‘low-cost’ fee.

Tuttosport, meanwhile, maintains that Milan are interested in Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, although this move seems highly unlikely to come off in January, but could be one to monitor in the summer.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
