Milan and Inter aim to raise over €25m with new San Siro stadium naming rights

Reports in Italy claim that Milan and Inter are aiming to raise around €25m per season through the naming rights for the new stadium that will be built on the current San Siro site.

Milan and Inter have recently signed the deeds as they go through the formal process of officially acquiring the San Siro site, which includes the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Once the purchase has been completed, Milan and Inter intend to demolish the vast majority of their current ground and replace it with a new, state-of-the-art ground on the same site.

The clubs will aim to make the new stadium as profitable as possible, and, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, they are currently seeking sponsors to take on the naming rights of the new stadium.

Among the potential names that could be brandished across the new stadium is Generali, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, which is the largest insurance firm in Italy.

As things stand, there are no guarantees over the cost of the naming rights for the new stadium in San Siro.  Juventus signed a 10-year agreement with stadium sponsor Allianz, which is worth €103m. Reportedly, Juventus receive somewhere between €7m-€10m per season specifically for the naming rights of the Stadium.

It is a different scenario for Milan and Inter, though, particularly due to the fact that they, being two of the largest clubs in Italy, share a ground and therefore sponsors will have twice as much exposure as they do at, say, Juventus.

Additionally, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the San Siro name and the stadium that currently sits on the site is internationally renowned, and the fact that there will be a brand-new, state-of-the-art ground designed by some of the world’s most respected stadium architects (MANICA and Foster + Partners will oversee the design), means that Milan and Inter will aim to bring in around €25m, potentially up to €30m per season through the stadium naming rights.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
