Milan 1-0 Roma | Player Ratings – Maignan to the rescue in exciting San Siro classic

Milan emerged victorious at San Siro on Sunday evening with a 1-0 win over Roma. Football Italia’s Man of the Match was Rossoneri goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Read our Match Report for the match here.

Milan: Maignan 7.5; De Winter 5, Gabbia 6, Pavlovic 7; Saelemaekers 6.5, Fofana 5, Modric 6.5, Ricci 6.5, Bartesaghi 6; Leao 7, Nkunku 5.5

Best Milan player: Maignan – Pulled off a confident save to deny Paulo Dybala from the spot and commanded his defence well amid intense pressure from the Giallorossi towards the closing stages of the match.

Lowest Milan rating: Nkunku – Once again ineffectual as Milan’s striker issues grow more worrisome. With Gimenez they have a goalscorer who isn’t finishing his chances and Nkunku is struggling to carve out a role alongside Leao. Was eventually subbed off but had little impact after one first half chance.

Coach: Allegri 8 – A strong performance from the Rossoneri coach, who set up his team to exploit Roma’s vulnerabilities and once the lead was obtained, manage the game perfectly. Had little need for substitutes, only to see out the game in the closing stages.

Roma: Svilar 7; Hermoso 6.5 (Tsimikas N/A), Mancini 5, N’dicka 6; Celik 6 (Dovbyk 6), Cristante 6, Kone 6, El Aynaoui 6 (Pellegrini 6), Wesley 6.5; Soule 6 (Bailey 6), Dybala 5 (Baldanzi N/A)

Best Roma player: Svilar – The Giallorossi keeper had a strong outing in front of goal, only beaten once after an incisive counter-attack from Milan. Made a couple of massive saves to prevent the Rossoneri from extending their lead but was ultimately let down by his outfield teammates.

Lowest Roma rating: Dybala – Had a poor penalty saved by Maignan and missed a decent first half chance. It was not La Joya’s night and Gasperini’s decision to take off Soule, instead of Dybala, may have come back to haunt him. To make matters worse, the Argentine suffered an injury when he took his penalty.

Coach: Gasperini 6 – Let down by his team missing a number of decent chances and can only really be criticised for his questionable substitution of Soule.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
