Mancini strong contender for Nottingham Forest after Postecoglou fired

According to Telegraph Sport, former Italy and Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini is a strong contender for Nottingham Forest after Ange Postecoglou was sacked.

The change was announced this afternoon mere minutes after Nottingham Forest suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea in the Premier League.

Postecoglou was fired just 39 days into the job, having replaced Nuno Espirito Santo on September 9.

Now Telegraph Sport claim that Italian Mancini is a realistic contender for the job, along with Sean Dyche, a report also supported by The Athletic.

It had only been reported today that the former Italy coach told friends he was in the running for Manchester United, should they decide to part company with under-fire Ruben Amorim.

Now he is being linked with a different Premier League side, albeit one with several former Serie A players in the squad, including Dan Ndoye, Nikola Milenkovic, Douglas Luiz and Nicolò Savona.

Mancini turns 61 next month and famously won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2012.

He also had roles at Inter, Galatasaray, Zenit St. Petersburg and the Italy squad from 2018 to 2023, when he left to take over the Saudi Arabia national team.

The Italian was sacked from that position in October 2024.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
