Manchester United eyeing SHOCK move to sign world class Barcelona star

Manchester United are reportedly a possible contender to sign Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski when he becomes a free agent next summer.

The veteran Polish striker remains a key player for Barca at the moment, but it seems he might not get an extension beyond this season as he’ll be 38 at the start of the next campaign.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick may be understandably concerned about Lewandowski’s ability to keep on playing in his high-energy and high-pressing system by that point.

As a result, it seems possible that the former Bayern Munich man will be available on a free, and Man United are being linked as a possible destination.

According to the Daily Star, there may be some interest from Man Utd in snapping up Lewandowski when his contract expires.

The Red Devils have notably tried to sign the Poland international before, but that was all the way back in Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge.

Lewandowski has spoken publicly about this transfer saga, admitting that he said yes to the move to Old Trafford, but his former club Borussia Dortmund blocked it at the time.

All in all, the Daily Star’s report seems to be speculation more than anything else – it’s not clear if United are actually seriously considering Lewandowski now.

It seems more like the Daily Star are putting two stories together – Lewandowski’s availability on a free next summer, and past interest from United.

Still, this interest is over a decade old, so it doesn’t seem that relevant to now, and one imagines MUFC would also have concerns over Lewandowski’s age.

The 37-year-old is still a fantastic striker, but it would be a gamble bringing him to a competitive league like the Premier League at this age, so the club will surely be focusing on younger players instead.
