Man City will not win the Premier League if they don’t change this Erling Haaland stat

Erling Haaland is the bookies’ favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award this season, but he will be limited to individual honours if he doesn’t receive more help from his Manchester City teammates.

Haaland has started a campaign in blistering form once again, scoring nine times in just seven Premier League games this season.

It’s the third-most goals a player has scored at this stage of a campaign in the competition’s history, and Haaland makes up each of the top three spots.

He netted 14 times after seven games in 2022-23, and 10 times last season at this point of the season.

Haaland is already on track for yet another Premier League record, outscoring nine entire teams so far this campaign, while equalling the scoring totals of both Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

Thanks to five goals in three games across the month, Haaland was awarded the Premier League’s player of the month award for September on Friday.

Quick take: Match context: momentum and small details could decide this one, especially set-pieces and transitions. Form and fitness will matter; expect managers to rotate carefully around the congested schedule. Continental stakes raise the intensity, where away goals no longer apply but margins still feel razor thin. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
