Maldini ‘super happy’ to be at Lazio and finally unite with best friend Rovella

Daniel Maldini is happy to complete his transfer to Lazio, especially as it means a reunion with childhood friend Niccolò Rovella. ‘My father gave me advice too.’

The creative midfielder arrived today from Atalanta, on loan for a reported €1m fee with an option to buy at the end of the season for a further €14m.

That can become an obligation if certain conditions are met over the next six months.

“My first impressions are super positive, it feels like I already know everyone here,” Maldini told Lazio Style Channel.

“It is an important step in my career. I’ve not had the best time recently, but it’s the chance to show what I can do and help my team as much as possible to achieve our aims.”

His versatility has often caused issues in the past, so where does he expect to play in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation?

“I spoke to the coach for 10 minutes, we had a general chat, but we’ll see over the next few days in training where I will play and what I am asked to do.”

Lazio had started the campaign with high hopes, but have slipped down the standings recently amid tension off the field.

“They might be having a difficult spell, but I am sure there are strong foundations to build something important here.”

Maldini was above all drawn to Lazio by the opportunity to play alongside his childhood friend Rovella.

“He lived in Milan, we had friends in common, and became best friends as kids. We kept missing each other and never got to play together, but now we are finally in the same team, and I am super happy.”

Daniel grew up in the Milan youth academy, following in the footsteps of father Paolo and grandfather Cesare.

“My father gives me advice, we try to help each other like any father and son when making decisions. He is an important support for me, but ultimately I get to choose,” assured Maldini.

“I am proud that I managed to forge my own career path, but I am sure that I haven’t yet shown all that I can do. This is the right time to change that.”

He has chosen the Number 27 jersey, which he already wore at Milan and Monza.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
