Liverpool are keen on Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The Reds are long-term admirers of the the France international, and are reportedly monitoring the player’s playing time situation.

Camavinga has made 16 appearances for Madrid this season, but 10 of those have come from the bench. TeamTalk has reported that Liverpool are now considering a “spectacular” move for the player but may struggle to do a deal in January.

The 23-year-old is under contract until 2029 and is highly rated by Madrid boss Xabi Alonso. A hamstring and persistent ankle injuries have hampered much of the player’s campaign, and Camavinga is now reportedly focused on returning to match fitness and playing a big part in the squad for the second half of the season.

Liverpool are admirers of Camavinga’s versatility. The Frenchman is recognized as one of the world’s best defensive midfielders, but has also deputized at left back at times.

Any deal is expected to be difficult to do though, especially this month. Reports suggest that any negotiation would have to start north of £80m.

Liverpool has endured an indifferent title defense campaign. A poor start has seen them fall 13 points behind league leaders Arsenal, having lost 6 Premier League games already.

A recent run of form has seen them win three on the bounce however. A win against Leeds on Thursday night would see them move within touching distance of third place Aston Villa.

The Reds already invested heavily on transfers over the summer. They broke the British transfer record twice when signing Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak for £100m and then £125m respectively. Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez all joined as well in a new look side for Arne Slot.

Investment in January is expected to be limited, barring outgoings first. Liverpool did also hold interest in Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo as they search for long term replacements in right wing for Mohamed Salah.

Any move for Camavinga would likely take place over the summer.
