Lazio identify Sassuolo forward Pinamonti as Castellanos replacement

Lazio are already moving to reshape their attack following Valentin Castellanos’ departure, with Andrea Pinamonti emerging as a leading candidate to fill the void.

Castellanos’ exit has now been finalised, with the Argentine set to join West Ham United in a deal worth around €30 million including bonuses.

The striker has signed a long-term contract running until 2030, bringing an end to a spell in Rome that had become increasingly strained under Maurizio Sarri. Castellanos opted to remain in Europe and test himself in the Premier League, turning down an alternative offer from Flamengo.

With the sale essentially completed, Lazio’s focus has shifted immediately to reinforcements.

Sarri has made it clear that a new centre-forward is required, and according to Tuttosport, Andrea Pinamonti of Sassuolo is now one of the main profiles under consideration.

The trail leading to Giacomo Raspadori has cooled, with the Italy international now expected to head to Roma.

Lazio’s January plans are not limited to the No.9 role. Sarri has also requested an attacking winger, with sporting director Angelo Fabiani continuing talks for Daniel Maldini. Meanwhile, the coach’s preferred option remains Lorenzo Insigne, who has already given his approval to a short-term deal with an option through 2027 and is waiting for a call from Formello.

Further changes could follow. Nuno Tavares is edging toward an exit, with Al Ittihad his likely destination. Should that move be completed, Lazio are expected to target Alfonso Pedraza as a replacement on the left flank.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. Continental stakes raise the intensity, where away goals no longer apply but margins still feel razor thin. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
