Lautaro Martinez confession on that Inter goal against Lazio

Lautaro Martinez confession on that Inter goal against Lazio

Lautaro Martinez broke his Serie A goal drought and reveals whether he really intended to hit it with that bend as Inter beat Lazio 2-0. ‘I certainly wanted to go for goal…’

The centre-forward had found the net midweek in the 2-1 Champions League victory over Kairat Almaty, but had not scored in Serie A since October 4 against Cremonese.

Having fired blanks in the last four rounds, it took him under three minutes to break the deadlock at San Siro this evening against Lazio.

It was a rather odd finish, with a loop off the outside of the boot that took it into the far top corner, so was it intentional or a fluke?

“I certainly wanted to go for goal. It’s also true that I scuffed it a little, I had to stretch for it, but the important thing is that it went into the net,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN Italia.

What a way to open the scoring ⚽

The captain needs some rest, so he was substituted in the second half and received a standing ovation from the crowd at San Siro.

“I thank all the people who come to the stadium and are behind us. Every game they give us their support, so I try to celebrate each goal in a special way for them.

“The most wonderful thing in football is scoring goals, so when these fans shout your name, it always gives you goosebumps, from the very first time I came here. They are like the 12th man, they affect the game.”

Cristian Chivu had said in a press conference that Lautaro Martinez needs to smile more, so has this helped him to shake off some of the pressure?

“I haven’t changed, I am a serious person, but when I need to smile, I smile. That’s just what I’m like,” laughed Lautaro Martinez.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
