Koopmeiners returns to Juventus after Netherlands snub – future could depend on end of season

Teun Koopmeiners is back in Turin after a frustrating international break with the Netherlands, where he failed to play a single minute under Ronald Koeman.

The Juventus midfielder had been called up late due to an injury elsewhere in the Dutch squad, but his lack of involvement sent a clear message about his place in Koeman’s pecking order.

Koopmeiners’ last appearance for the national team came back in March, more than six months ago, and his diminished status reflects a difficult spell in Turin, as noted by IlBianconero.

Koopmeiners’ performances since joining Juventus from Atalanta have yet to live up to expectations. While his form has dropped, coach Igor Tudor continues to offer him opportunities, partly through necessity but also in hope of a long-awaited breakthrough.

The 27-year-old was one of Juve’s marquee signings in the summer of 2024, yet remains the only major addition from that window still at the club after disappointing spells from Douglas Luiz and Nico González.

A January departure appears unlikely, but the summer could bring a decisive turning point. Juventus would reportedly need around €35 million to avoid a capital loss on his transfer, a valuation difficult to meet unless his form improves significantly in the months ahead.

If the much-discussed “turning point” does not arrive soon, the club may be forced to consider a sale as part of next season’s restructuring plans.
