Kean: ‘Dzeko is a leader, set great example’ for Fiorentina in crisis

Moise Kean hopes Paolo Vanoli can ‘get Fiorentina on the right path’ and thanks Edin Dzeko for ‘defending’ the team against fan insults. ‘He is a leader, he sets a great example.’

The Viola are in a deep crisis that just seems to be getting worse, as they have for the first time gone the opening 13 Serie A rounds without a single victory.

Sacking Stefano Pioli didn’t improve matters much, as new coach Vanoli oversaw two draws and two losses between Serie A and the Conference League.

“We are a good team and have fans around us who really care about the club,” assured Kean on Sky Sport Italia as he attended the Gran Gala del Calcio awards ceremony.

“Now we have a new coach who has big ambitions, which is what we needed. We’re trying to follow his instructions, we have faith in him, and hope that he can take us onto the right path.”

Dzeko took a stand after the home defeat to AEK Athens on Thursday when urging the fans to resist jeering during the games, as they needed to “help” the team during this crisis.

He then took a megaphone and spoke to the ultras following this weekend’s Serie A loss to Atalanta, further clarifying his position.

“Edin is a leader, he sets a great example for us all,” responded Kean.

“He protected us in the right way and now we hope to do better on the field.”

There has also been a change of management for Italy, where Gennaro Gattuso is hoping to take the Nazionale to the 2026 World Cup.

“He brought the spirit that we were lacking. We can do well with Gattuso, we have faith in him and his staff.”
