Juventus add Parma striker to January striker shortlist

Juventus add Parma striker to January striker shortlist

Juventus are on the lookout for new attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window, and recent reports in Italy claim that Parma’s Mateo Pellegrino could be of interest to the Bianconeri this month.

Juventus slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Lecce in Serie A over the weekend, and following that slip-up, fans and pundits have recommended that the Old Lady are in need of a ‘true’ or ‘heavyweight’ centre-forward.

Those calls come after a series of missed chances and a horror attempt at a Panenka penalty by Jonathan David on Saturday. Aside from his wasted opportunities over the weekend, it has been suggested that the Canadian is not the right profile to lead the line under Spalletti.

The same has also been said of summer signing Lois Openda. The only other options at centre-forward for Juventus are Dusan Vlahovic, out long-term with an injury, and Arkadiusz Milik, who has not made a competitive appearance since May 2024.

That leaves Juventus exploring potential opportunities in the January transfer window.

According to reports from Tuttosport and Calciomercato.com, Parma’s Pellegrino is among the current favourites for the Bianconeri in January.

Juventus and Parma are said to have an excellent working relationship, as do directors Marco Ottolini and Federico Cherubini on a personal level.

Still, negotiations are not expected to be straightforward given that Parma are not currently minded to let go of their starting no.9 midway through the season. They will reportedly seek a fee in the region of €30m if Juventus decide to proceed.

Among the alternative options, according to Monday’s reports, are Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth, Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca and Roma’s Artem Dovbyk.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
