Italy World Cup hero Grosso ‘destined for a top club’ as a coach

Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali praises coach Fabio Grosso, saying that the 2006 Italy World Cup hero is ‘destined’ to be appointed by a top club.

Newly promoted side Sassuolo have earned 29 points in 23 Serie A matches and find themselves 12 points above the relegation zone.

Grosso, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, led Sassuolo to Serie A promotion last term, and the Neroverdi have continued to develop and achieve consistent results in the current campaign in Italy’s top flight.

“I was confident because I knew we had built a competitive team with an excellent coach,” Sassuolo director Carnevali told Gazzetta via TMW.

“Grosso has to take a big part of the credit, and he’s destined to end up in a top club. The objective is to bring forward our philosophy, remain in Serie A and make young players develop so we can sell them in the future and remain competitive. That being said, we won’t set any limit.”

Grosso scored decisive goals for Italy in the 2006 World Cup. He first sent the Azzurri to the Final thanks to a late extra-time goal in the semis against Germany, and then scored the decisive penalty kick that gave the Azzurri their fourth World Cup.

Quick take: Touchline talk: leadership changes often bring short-term energy but require time for structure. Watch for shifts in pressing triggers, build-up patterns, and set-piece routines. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
