Italy legend sees Juventus’ ‘signal’ with Spalletti but one thing still missing

Italy and Juventus legend Antonio Cabrini is certain that Luciano Spalletti will be ‘useful’ for the Old Lady, but feels the team still lacks the ‘Bianconeri’s DNA.’

Cabrini spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport on Saturday, ahead of the derby della Mole against Torino.

The former Italian defender, a 1982 Italy World Cup winner, played 26 games against the Granata as a footballer, all wearing a Bianconeri shirt.

Spalletti has recently been appointed to replace Igor Tudor, and the Tuscan tactician has revealed that he still believes Juventus can fight for the title this season.

“Why not? He’s the one who feels every day how much the team can give,” said Cabrini.

“He certainly doesn’t want to fool anyone; he truly believes in it. Anything can happen in this league.”

Cabrini added that hiring Spalletti was “a signal that Juventus have chosen a coach with experience in Italy, who could be useful for Juventus.”

Cabrini also named the player who can truly make a difference in the Bianconeri squad.

“I’ve been saying that for a while now, it’s Vlahovic,” said the ex-defender.

“I’d like him to become a key player, not just in this match. If he puts aside off-field issues and understands that he’s an important piece of the puzzle, he can truly become one.”

Vlahovic is Juventus’ best scorer this season, but his future at the club is uncertain as his contract expires in June 2026.

Spalletti is Juventus’ third coach in 2025, so what is the team missing to compete with the top sides?

“Maybe a bit of Bianconeri’s DNA, not everyone has it,” admitted Cabrini.

“Either you win or nothing else matters. This has to become everyone’s mindset, even for the foreigners or newcomers. This has to be the first though.”

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
