Inter lose Thuram against Roma, Bonny preferred to Esposito

Inter lose Thuram against Roma, Bonny preferred to Esposito

Marcus Thuram is still not training with the Inter first team, so Ange-Yoan Bonny is the favourite ahead of Francesco Pio Esposito to partner Lautaro Martinez against Roma.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The Nerazzurri look increasingly likely as if they will be without Thuram for this big Serie A showdown, as he has not recovered from the injury that ruled him out of international duty with France.

He was diagnosed with a strain of the femoral bicep in his left leg and was again not part of the full training session today.

At this point, it seems as if Cristian Chivu will keep Thuram on ice, hoping he can make a full recovery in time for next week’s Scudetto battle with Napoli on October 25.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez took a private plane home from national duty after scoring twice for Argentina in their rescheduled friendly against Puerto Rico.

This allowed him to train with the Inter team today and he is expected to start.

Sky Sport Italia point to Bonny as the favourite to partner the captain, as he remained with Inter throughout the last couple of weeks, whereas Esposito was in action scoring his first senior goal for Italy.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
