Gravina slams Allegri and Folorunsho: ‘Campaign on ethics, then we spit on it all’

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina warns Max Allegri, Michael Folorunsho and more to stop bad behaviour. ‘We do campaigns on fair play and ethics, then spit on all of it.’

Calcio has been rocked by a few different incidents in the past couple of weeks, as the Lega Serie A declined to take action when Cagliari midfielder Folorunsho was spotted hurling vile insults at Roma defender Mario Hermoso during a match.

Last night, AC Milan coach Allegri clashed with Napoli team manager Gabriele Oriali on the touchline, prompting the Partenopei to release a statement condemning his behaviour.

Now Federation President Gravina has had enough of the hypocrisy.

“This is a cultural problem now. We’ve got to rediscover a sense of common courtesy, otherwise people are convinced that the more they shout, it will influence a referee’s decision.

“Instead, this is just a defeat for the image of Italian football,” said Gravina in his press conference.

“Enough of this constant aggression and that goes for everyone, for Folorunsho, for the Presidents, directors, players, coaches and fans.

“We talk endlessly about fair play and ethics, we do these campaigns and stamp the slogans across our chests, and then step onto the field and spit on all of it.”

Allegri is not new to ranting and raving on the touchline, as he had to sit out the first two Coppa Italia games of his AC Milan spell due to a left-over ban from his last appearance in the competition as coach of Juventus.

Napoli have appealed for video evidence to be used to punish him, as he was not sent off during last night’s Supercoppa Italiana semi-final.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
