Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu calls for improved defense after Pafos FC stalemate

Ghana international Mohammed Salisu has called on his teammates to improve defensively following stalemate against Pafos FC in the UEFA Champions League.

The Black Stars defender started and lasted the entire duration of the match as his outfit played out a 2-2 away draw with the Cypriot side on Wednesday evening.

Despite scoring an own-goal, the former Southampton star emerged as the Man-of-the-Match prize in the high-stake clash, at the Alphamega stadium.

Having threw away their two-goal lead, the Ghana international has urged his teammates to improve defensively in subsequent matches.

“This is a big lesson for us. We need to defend better in such games at difficult venues especially at set-pieces. We knew Pafos were always going to be threat. We also needed to ensure we took our opportunities at the other end. We’re still in the competition, but we must go to Galatasaray in the next Champions League game and get the three points.” He said after the match.

Monaco started the game brilliantly with Japanese winger Takumi Minamino opening the scoring after just five minutes.

Pafos responded 13 minutes later after former Chelsea defender David Luis powerfully headed home from a corner kick.

Monaco restored their lead eight minutes later through American forward Folarin Balugon, who pounced on a mistake by Pafos’ goalkeeper Neofytos Michail.

With two minutes remaining, Ivan Sunjic hit the bar and the ball went in through a deflection from the Ghanaian defender

The 26-year-old Ghanaian defender has made four appearances in the Champions League this season after five matches.

In all competitions, Salisu has made 12 appearances for the French giants, scoring one goal across the period.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
