Gasperini: Inter and Napoli the best in Serie A, nobody talks about the Scudetto

Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini reiterates that Inter and Napoli are the best teams in Serie A, but notes that ‘nobody talks about winning the Scudetto anymore.’

The Italian tactician held a press conference on Friday, on the eve of a Serie A match against Inter.

Angelino will likely be ruled out due to asthmatic bronchitis, but Leon Bailey is also not fit to feature in a Giallorossi shirt.

Konstantinos Tsimikas will likely replace Angelino on the left flank with Wesley or Devyne Rensch on the right.

Roma are the table leaders, but Gasp reiterated that the Giallorossi aim for a Champions League finish.

“We talk about Champions League qualification for a very simple reason. It brings in a lot of money,” he said via Romanews.

“Nobody talks about winning the Scudetto anymore. It’s almost like people aren’t interested in that. The focus is on finishing fourth, and the reason is purely financial.

“There are also technical objectives, which are different from the financial ones. They need to be evaluated match by match and season by season. I limit myself to technical evaluations. Right now, we’re in a good position. We’ll try to make the most of it. For us, the important goal is tomorrow’s match. A high-level event.

“We come into the game as the table leaders. Inter are undoubtedly the best team in the league, alongside Napoli; we can all agree on that,” Gasperini continued.

“Inter are extraordinary for what they’ve done in Serie A and in the Champions League.

“It’s a strong team, but it’s also a great challenge for us. I agree with what was said; it’s a way to measure ourselves. The best way to assess your level is against strong teams; facing the best helps you understand and see how competitive you can be. Even if it’s just for one game. Fortunately, in football, sometimes you can win or get a result when the performance isn’t perfect.

“These are games where everything has to be done well. Inter have a very deep squad. They have a few absentees, but not many. I expect a determined Inter side, eager to recover from their losses and to reassert their position in the standings. I expect them to come here to win and climb back up. It looks like a great challenge to me.”

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
