Fortuna Düsseldorf confirm head coach change

Fortuna Düsseldorf have confirmed that Daniel Thioune has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.

The 2. Bundesliga club also announced that Markus Anfang has been appointed as his successor.

Anfang, a former Fortuna Düsseldorf player, most recently coached 1. FC Kaiserslautern from July 2024 to April 2025.

“With Markus Anfang, we have chosen an excellent connoisseur of the 2. Bundesliga, who has already shown that he can successfully lead teams,” said Fortuna Düsseldorf board member for sport and communication Klaus Allofs.

“At this point, we would like to expressly thank Daniel Thioune for his work. He took over the club in February 2022 in a difficult situation and led Fortuna to the brink of the Bundesliga and to the DFB-Pokal semi-final in 2024. He has proven to be an outstanding ambassador for the club. He will always be welcome at Fortuna.”

Fortuna Düsseldorf currently sit 13th in the 2. Bundesliga.

Quick take: Touchline talk: leadership changes often bring short-term energy but require time for structure. Watch for shifts in pressing triggers, build-up patterns, and set-piece routines. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
