Fonseca: Juventus should sign Lewandowski, Zirkzee ‘perfect’ for Roma

Former Juventus and Roma striker Daniel Fonseca argues that the Bianconeri should consider signing Robert Lewandowski at the end of the season, while Joshua Zirkzee would be ‘ideal’ for the Giallorossi in January.

Roma and Juventus meet at the Allianz Stadium in Turin this evenining, in the big match of Serie A Round 16.

Fonseca released an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, where he didn’t only preview the upcoming showdown, but also gave transfer suggestions to his former clubs.

“It will be a full-throttle clash given the intensity shown by Juventus and Roma in the last round. A great match and a demanding one,” said the former Uruguay international.

“Gasperini deserves a big attacking signing in January. I keep hearing about Manchester United’s Zirkzee; he’d be perfect. With three points in Turin and a nice Christmas present, Roma could fight for the title right until the end,” continued the former striker.

Juventus, however, have just beaten Bologna and are climbing the table under new coach Luciano Spalletti, being just four points below the fourth-placed Giallorossi.

“These matches are decided by flashes of genius, Yildiz-style. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. In Kenan, I see the elegance of Francescoli, the idol of both mine and Zidane’s,” said Fonseca.

“The Turkish is magical, and can change the balance of a match. The other dangerous Juventus player is Conceiçao.

“Gasperini also has his weapons, starting with Wesley. I’m not surprised at all. I saw him play many times at Flamengo, and he’s a force of nature, like Cafu.”

As for Juventus’ transfer strategies, Fonseca added: “I’d still back Locatelli. He’s the captain, and he has quality. Instead, I’d look around for attacking options for the future. Vlahovic is injured, and his contract is running down. If I were Juventus, I’d think about Lewandowski on a free transfer. It could be a Modric-type signing. Lewa has been an absolute top player over the past decade, and a striker’s instinct for goals doesn’t disappear, not even at 37 or 38.”

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
