Fofana doesn’t hide Milan’s Scudetto ambitions

Youssouf Fofana says Milan players think about winning the Scudetto ‘every year’ and feels players have ‘even more desire to do things right’ under Massimiliano Allegri.

Milan midfielder Fofana visited hospitalised children at the Ospedale dei Bambini Vittore Buzzi in Milan on Thursday and spoke to Sky Sport Italia on his way out.

The Rossoneri sit third in the Serie A table, two points below the leading pair Napoli and Roma and even if Allegri has been claiming that the main target is a top-four finish, Fofana feels the team can aim for more.

“As Milan players, we have to think about the Scudetto every year; that is normal,” he said via Gazzetta.

“Allegri doesn’t need to instil in us the desire to win the Scudetto. We play for Milan, so it’s natural to think about it.”

Not many, perhaps, expected to see Milan among the title contenders, although it’s still quite early in the campaign as Serie A resumes over the weekend with Round 7.

“We work hard for this,” said the French midfielder.

“We have to fight for every match, and we’ll see at the end. We know that, with one match per week, we have to put 100% of our energy into each game. I don’t want to say that if we don’t win the Scudetto, the season would be a failure, but if we do win it, it would be a great joy after last year. Last season, there was joy, but this season, even more desire to do things right.”

Milan will host Fiorentina, coached by their former boss Stefano Pioli, at San Siro this coming Sunday.

The Rossoneri lost the opening game of the season against Cremonese, but have remained unbeaten in the following five outings.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
