Fiorentina could be on the verge of hiring a successor to Stefano Pioli, as frontrunner Paolo Vanoli is expected to arrive in Florence for talks by the end of the week, Football Italia understands.
Fiorentina parted company with head coach Pioli earlier this week following a run of four draws and six losses from their opening 10 games of the Serie A season. Daniele Galloppa will lead the team into Thursday’s Conference League match against Mainz.
Vanoli, who has been the frontrunner to land the Fiorentina job over the last few days, is expected to arrive in the city of Florence by Friday, as was originally reported by SportItalia’s Lorenzo Lepore. Vanoli’s staff are expected to arrive in the city on Thursday.
La Viola do not wish to waste any more time, and instead, want to hire an experienced Serie A coach in time to lead the team into their crucial Serie A match against 18th-placed Genoa, who currently sit just two points above them in the table.
For now, all eyes are on Fiorentina’s Conference League match against Mainz, but the club already has plans in place for the next few days.
There has been no contact with Roberto Mancini, and the club have not considered a return for Raffaele Palladino, which means that Vanoli is increasingly likely to take over.
