Fabregas destined for Man City or Barcelona after Como

Reports in Italy claim that Cesc Fabregas is destined to become the successor to either Hansi Flick at Barcelona or Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and that he is unlikely to coach another team in Serie A if or when he decides to leave Como.

The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder has made an impressive start to life as a head coach, helping Como to promotion from Serie B in 2023-24, albeit technically as an assistant due to his lack of UEFA coaching licenses at the time.

He guided Como to a top 10 finish during his first season in Serie A, and is currently mounting a serious push for a European spot in 2025-26, currently sitting in fifth place, four points off the top of the table, three points off third and one point ahead of Juventus.

His CV is also bolstered by his experiences as a player, given that he spent most of his career under some of this generation’s finest tacticians in Guardiola, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

There have already been approaches made for the 38-year-old: Bayer Leverkusen made serious enquiries when they were looking for a Xabi Alonso replacement over the summer, while Inter were also keen to appoint the Spaniard as the successor to Simone Inzaghi.

However, as per Corriere della Sera, it is increasingly unlikely that Fabregas will go on to coach another team in Serie A directly after his experience with Como, as he is already being touted for some of the biggest jobs in the world: Either at Barcelona or Manchester City.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
