El Khannouss and Nübel reflect on "deserved home win"

Match-winning goal-scorer Bilal El Khannouss was delighted with VfB Stuttgart’s start in the Europa League after victory over Celta Vigo of Spain tonight.

“It’s a great start to the Europa League for us. We’re very happy and satisfied with our performance and the result. In my opinion, it’s a deserved home win.

“We showed what we set out to do and earned the win. I’m very pleased with my good start in Stuttgart – every goal and good performance helps us get started quickly,” he said.

VfB’s Alexander Nübel – who became Germany’s first ever goalkeeper to register an assist in the competition – credited their La Liga opponents but felt the win was well earned.

“We rewarded ourselves for the first half with the 1-0 lead and opened the door for the home win. I’m very pleased that I was able to contribute to the goal.

“Celta de Vigo played very well, especially defensively, but we had a lot of energy on the pitch and kept attacking. That’s how we deserved to win the game.

“It was important to carry over the flow from the home game against St.Pauli. We want to show that again on Sunday in Cologne,” said the 28-year-old.

Quick take: Match context: momentum and small details could decide this one, especially set-pieces and transitions. Form and fitness will matter; expect managers to rotate carefully around the congested schedule. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
