Conterio: Ibrahimovic pushed for Thiago Silva but even Allegri said no – the background

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the only member of AC Milan’s management who pushed for the return of Thiago Silva, according to a report.

Last week, there were plenty of rumours regarding the future of Thiago Silva, with some even suggesting that Massimiliano Allegri and Ibrahimovic were both keen on the idea. However, with no progress made, the Brazilian was eventually announced by Porto.

Since then, Milan have been evaluating various options for the backline, with Federico Gatti being the latest one. Clearly, the Rossoneri are eyeing younger options for the position as opposed to a player with 41 years under his belt.

According to Marco Conterio of TuttoMercatoWeb, the Thiago Silva story was blown a bit out of proportion. While multiple reports suggested that Allegri wanted to reunite with the Brazilian, it was actually only Ibrahimovic who pushed for it.

The Swede was the first to bring up Thiago Silva as an option and continued to pitch him to the management. However, as Conterio puts it, ‘the entire management’ said no to the idea and not even Allegri was in favour of the move.

With all of this in mind, it makes sense why Milan never really made any progress on the Thiago Silva front, and why the Porto move seemed certain before it was announced.
