Chelsea’s summer spending spree — which exceeded £280 million — brought another wave of emerging talent to Stamford Bridge.
Stars like Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho, Joao Pedro, and Jorrel Hato have already made an impact, helping the Blues rise to third in the Premier League and perform strongly in the Champions League.
However, with the first team increasingly settled, some squad members have struggled for minutes.
One of them is Filip Jorgensen, the Danish goalkeeper, who is reportedly exploring a move away in January.
Jorgensen joined Chelsea in the summer of 2024 after impressing with Villarreal in La Liga. Yet despite his potential, he has found opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge.
Head coach Enzo Maresca has largely trusted first-choice keeper Robert Sanchez, leaving Jorgensen with just four appearances this season, including two in the Carabao Cup and a single Premier League outing against Manchester United when Sanchez was sent off early.
The limited playing time has affected the 23-year-old’s confidence, and with the Denmark national team’s World Cup playoff looming, he wants to ensure he is match-fit and in contention for a starting spot ahead of 39-year-old Kasper Schmeichel.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the situation on his YouTube channel: “Filip Jorgensen, together with his agents, is considering to leave Chelsea already in the January transfer window.”
He added: “Jorgensen respects Chelsea’s strategy, respects also what Enzo Maresca and his staff are deciding, but at the same time, while he’s a very good professional, a very serious boy and not just a very good goalkeeper, Jorgensen wants to play.”
Chelsea may be thriving on and off the pitch, but for Jorgensen, the lack of minutes has made a January move increasingly likely.
A departure could benefit all parties: the 23-year-old gets the regular football he craves, Chelsea can maintain squad harmony, and Denmark may see their young goalkeeper back in form ahead of crucial international fixtures.
Over the years, he's had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest names in world sport, including Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal, Christian Pulisic, and more.
